A superstar lies within each and every one of us just waiting to unfold through this process we call life.

As I watched the Olympics for the last couple of weeks on TV; I could not help but reflect on the achievements of the athletes competing in these very illustrious games. Each athlete had achieved an above average level of success, in their field, in order to be qualified for competition in the Olympics.

And yet each had, in their own right, achieved to a certain standard at each milestone along the way. That standard was set by, in this case, those responsible for judging and overseeing the Olympic Games. They had, at each level of competition, from their hometown on up to national and onto the world competition achieved a level of success.

These athletes had their success rated. At some point they had to start with rating their own success. Then it may have moved to a coach rating their success and so on and so on until lastly it was the Olympic judges rating their success.

In this newsletter I would like to urge you to take stock of your individual success.

Trust me, you are probably more successful than you give yourself credit for. Just because you may not be receiving public recognition does not mean that you are not a success. Maybe you are one of those quite, behind the scenes, type of individuals. Maybe your success lies in the work you do that achieves a standard of excellence but there is no rating system to judge your success. You are the best judge of your success. You know if and when you do your best or just try to get by.

In this case we might suggest that you are your best judge of the excellence you produce in every aspect of your life. Your family, you’re church, your friends…may be all too eager to judge you. But on what standard are they basing it? Could it be their own? And how was that formulated?

They are judging you on their own value system. Another person’s hierarchy of values may not match our own. That doesn’t mean that they are right or you are wrong.

Success is more realistically determined by how we view our own life in relation to the amount of fulfillment we have achieved. A fulfilled life automatically produces success if we love doing what we do. A devoted parent will be a successful one. An employee who loves their job will be successful at it.

And so, I ask each and every one of you to reflect on your life and list your successes, the small ones, and the great ones. One does not need a credential to be a success. Just look at some of the foremost leaders of our country.
